For me, the story of Deadalus and Icarus is quite interesting . However, literature is literature and you have to go in depth in order to understand the message it tries to delivered. Our first lesson using this story was a good start as we were told to simplify the story less than 200 words. Based on the simplify version we made, we were assigned another task which is to come out with a set induction activity which I think is quite tough as designing it is more difficult compared to 'pre' and 'while' activity. From there, I got the clue that materials or texts which are long are better to be simplified especially if we are going to use it for classroom teaching. Back to the story, overall, it is another tales that contains message of how people can be too over confident that leads to his own downfall. So, tale is a good material to be used in classroom teaching but this story should only be used for upper secondary classes as the language and even the story itself are quite difficult. Besides that, this story contains good messages or moral values that can be integrated in the students. But this again depends on how the teacher make the story easy for the students to learn. All in all, I'm glad to be in Dr.Edwin's class!
